THE C.H.E.K METHOD

The C.H.E.K. philosophy of health and fitness is the brainchild of Paul Chek, H.H.P., C.N.M.T, a coach, educator, author, inventor, speaker and consultant. Paul, a lifelong athlete, had a reputation for being years ahead of his time. He learned everything he could in biomechanics, fitness, and nutrition from renowned experts. Then he began synthesizing his knowledge in ways nobody had before. He earned the respect of industry leaders and was soon training elite athletes and sports teams. Paul began teaching his methods in 1984 through academic articles, courses, and seminars.

In 1995, Paul and his wife Penny, opened the C.H.E.K. Institute, teaching his methods to professionals. Once someone becomes a C.H.E.K certified coach, they’re equipped with a diverse toolkit to help their clients become their best selves. They’re often sought out by professional athletes and celebrities for their comprehensive expertise and techniques. The C.H.E.K philosophy transcends fitness; it treats the whole person, from the inside out.

The C.H.E.K Philosophy

The C.H.E.K. philosophy is complex, but it’s based in two fundamental concepts: the six foundational principles and four doctors. The treatment for each client is unique, but each treatment plan is a combination of the relationship between these concepts, and their relationship with few others.

6 Foundational Principles

Sleep

Sleep is an important component of body and brain repair, so it’s critical that we get enough sleep each night for our body and mind.

Movement

Activity keeps us functioning, so it’s important to stay moving. But, too much exercise can lead to injury so it’s important to stay balanced.

Hydration

Drinking enough water keeps our brain healthy and our body clean. It’s important to drink enough water to avoid disease and fatigue.

Nutrition

Eating a wholesome diet is crucial for the building blocks of our body. A balanced intake of nutrients keeps the body healthy and happy.

Breathing

Slow, diaphragmatic breathing lowers stress and increases energy. By learning to breathe correctly, we can keep our brains balanced.

Thinking

Our thoughts control our health more than we realize. Taking time to think positively can dramatically improve overall health.

The 4 Doctors

Dr. Quiet

Dr. Quiet represents rest, recovery, and conscious living. We can maximize our body's natural physical and mental healing process through circadian rhythms. During sleep, our body repairs the damage made throughout the day. Maintaining the proper sleep schedule is critical for restoration. Beyond sleep, Dr. Quiet encourages being present and making time for silent reflection.

Dr. Quiet is awareness of your emotions, the reminder that everything is okay, and the teacher guiding you to rejuvenation.

Dr. Diet

Dr. Diet represents fueling for energy management and performance. It's not enough to just “eat well.” To maximize functioning and well-being, we should fuel our body according to our specific genetic requirements. And when we fuel is just as important as how we fuel. An intentional fueling schedule is important for proper nutrition. Dr. Diet recommends nutritional guidelines designed for our body's needs.

Dr. Diet is the internal healer, the potency of complete nourishment, and the vital transformation from fuel to energy.

Dr. Movement

Dr. Movement represents exercise and activity. Too much or not enough movement breaks down our physical, emotional, and mental health. Consistent activity is crucial for balance and recovery, and proper control sustains equilibrium. Dr. Movement teaches us which exercises are best for our lifestyle and how to engage with them. An active lifestyle can be the difference between life and death.

Dr. Movement is the relationship of our systems, the encouraging push for motion, and the fulfillment of mastery.

Dr. Happiness

Dr. Happiness represents our goals, dreams, and aspirations. True happiness comes with the harmony of our inner selves, and reaching qi (chi) is the apex of that experience. Dr. Happiness promotes the pinnacles of conscious creation: love, values, patience, self-confidence, and thriving relationships. Happiness is necessary for well-being, so Dr. Happiness is the most important of the four doctors.

Dr. Happiness is the courage of vulnerability, the push for love, and the glue that holds the doctors together.
